Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered their second consecutive loss in the Women’s T20 Challenge as they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians on Monday.
Smriti Mandhana stays confident despite defeat
Despite the disappointing result, RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana remained confident and promised a strong comeback. “We would have loved to put up a better performance. We were below par. Will come back harder,” Mandhana said at the post-match presentation. “It’s a pretty short tournament, we can’t dwell on it. In franchise cricket, even after two losses we can turn it around quickly.”
Positive aspects of RCB’s performance
Mandhana acknowledged that RCB’s batting was not up to the mark in the match against Mumbai Indians. “There were two-three batters getting 20-30 runs, a few batters including me couldn’t put up a good score. We will sit and talk and try to come up with a better performance,” she said.
However, Mandhana also highlighted some positive aspects of RCB’s performance, particularly the batting of Kanika Ahuja (22) and Shriyanka Patil (23) who came in at number seven and eight in the batting order. “Lots of positives in the form of Kanika and Shriyanka’s batting after the top order collapse, really happy with the way they batted,” she said.
The importance of confidence
Mandhana’s confident tone despite the back-to-back defeats shows that she is not letting the setbacks affect her or the team’s morale. She is determined to learn from the mistakes and come back stronger in the next matches.
In the end, as Mandhana said, the Women’s T20 Challenge is a short tournament and anything can happen. RCB still have a chance to turn things around and make it to the playoffs. With Mandhana’s leadership and confidence, the team can bounce back and show their true potential in the upcoming matches.
